 Harmony Day

Australia is one of places which consist of a huge amount of diverse cultures. People come from all over the world from different countries, cultures and beliefs to live in Australia together in peace regardless of their background. This diversity makes Australia a great place to live.

On 21st March 1999, Harmony day was created for the first time to give Australians the chance to celebrate their cultural diversity.

Harmony day is managed by the department of Immigration and Citizenship. The 21st March is also the international day for the elimination of racial discrimination.

This year the Harmony Day theme was “Sport: play, engage, inspire”. The purpose is to encourage people to participate in sport and feel every one belong to this country. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day.

Australians from all walks of life celebrate this event to say we are all Australian, we have the same rights and responsibilities, and we understand diversity.
